Dental Care

Proper dental care and treatment can provide major benefits for your cat's health and happiness. Unhealthy teeth and gums provide a place for bacteria to enter the bloodstream that can cause heart, liver and kidney problems. They can also cause major discomfort which can adversely affect your cat's enjoyment of eating.

The average cat needs his/her first dental by 3-5 years of age, and often yearly thereafter. The veterinarian will let you know when it is time during your cat's annual or semi-annual wellness exam. Under monitored anesthesia, we utilize an ultrasonic scaler, a high-speed polisher and flouride treatment for your cat's benefit.

Geriatric (Older) Cats

With so many advances in veterinary medicine in the last few decades, many of our feline friends now live well into their teens and twenties. We are particularly attuned to diseases caused by kidney insufficiency and failure, thyroid hormone overproduction and tumors (hyperthyroidism), and cancer. Early diagnosis and treatment by utilizing lab analysis, blood pressure monitoring and x-rays help us determine if there is a condition present. If so, we will provide you with the information and instruction you need to make your friend comfortable.

Surgical Care

We utilize inhalant anesthetics for all surgical procedures, allowing your pet to wake quickly and safely. Advanced monitoring techniques, including a pulse oximeter, are utilized. The veterinarian and assistants follow your cat's condition at all stages. Pre-anesthetic lab work and post-operative analgesics (pain management) are provided on an individualized basis.

Feline Leukemia & Immunodeficiency Virus

Feline Leukemia is a fatal virus that even a healthy appearing cat or kitten could be harboring. We recommend that all new cats and kittens be tested. All new cats over 4 months of age that have been outside should also be tested for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV).

Cats With Special Needs

Multi-cat households and cats that go outside may need additional protection against Feline Leukemia, Infectious Peritonitis and Immuno-deficiency Virus, as well as against fleas, ticks, heartworm and other worms and parasites. We also will work closely with you if your cat needs special diets for a particular condition (i.e. diabetes, kidney, urinary crystals, and obesity). Treating a variety of conditions, including behavioral issues such as urination outside of the litterbox, is made easier by the fact our pharmacy provides medications tailored to cats' needs. Thus, we have medications in liquids, tablets and topical forms for many conditions.
